This year the winner was Peter Nicholson of The Australian, for his cartoon “Bashir and Bombing”. The panel's comment was "In the wake of the Jakarta bombings, Nicholson deftly skewered the morality of a spiritual teacher who has guided his young pupils towards suicide bombing".

The Australian Financial Review’s Best Lawyers Australia survey of March 2009 listed Peter Banki under both Entertainment and Intellectual Property, Kate Haddock and Peter Knight under Intellectual Property and Bruce Burke under Defamation and Media. This means that half of Banki Haddock Fiora’s partners appeared in the list, which is based on a survey that asks the nation’s top lawyers to rate their professional peers through an exhaustive process of more than 66,000 confidential evaluations.
